Week 3

Day 1 of this week was slightly overwhelming, but in the best way possible. As ususal, student artists came to the office to sketch and come up with a design for their panel. However, on this Tuesday we had 14 students! By far the biggest group so far this summer.

Now the office where the students meet and work on Day 1 is a good size room. But, when you put 14 teenagers and 2 staffers in there...well lets just say there is a lot of togetherness going on.

On Day 2 and Day 3 the students made excellent progress painting. They even had suprise popsicle treats from a staffer on Day 2.

The group that worked on Panel A depicted Psalm 103:7-8 which states,
"He made known his ways to Moses,
his deeds to the people of Isreal:
The LORD is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love."

The group that worked on Panel B depicted Psalm 103: 9 which states,
"He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever;"

After the students had finished painting on Day 4, we had our end of the project wrap-up. I learned that one of our artists was on the decision team this week (the decision team is composed of 16-20 year old students who do peer spiritual counseling during the invitation in the evening tabernacle experience. To find out more about the invitation visit http://www.skopos.org/1300 and turn the sponsor book to page 32).

Also, several other students revealed that they had some meaningful conversations with their friends, and a few of the students even had the privilege of helping their friends begin their personal relationship with Jesus. God has been so good!

Week 2

To be completely honest Day 1 gave me a little bit of a scare. We had some communication issues and only two students came to participate with the mural project. Needless to say I was a little nervous, but later that night I stopped and had a conversation with Jesus. I told him that I completely trusted in him and I knew that he had a plan, but if he would send me some more awesome student artists it would make me feel much better lol. And God totally provided!

On Day 2 Jesus sent seven more students who are not only artistically gifted but are also super fast painters. On Day 2 the students came up with their design concept, sketched out their designs on their designated panel, and began painting. I have speedy artists this week!

The group that worked on Panel A that depicted Psalm 103:4-5 which states,
"who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's."

Day 3 also witnessed an impromptu "Simon Says" game. When Andy Harrison, Falls Creek Program Director and legendary Simon of "Simon Says," came to check on the progress of the murals, several campers pleaded with him to play the game. Andy agreed and stated that whoever won the game would receive a fast pass pin (a pin that gets its owner to the front of the icee line). After 2 minutes of playing with 8 campers participating, there were no winners. Once again Andy/Simon was victorious.

Simon Says...

On Day 4 the artists began to add the finishing touches to their panels. The majority of the students started a day late and the entire group finished two hours early.  I was completely blown away by not only how fast they painted but also God's continual provision!

"For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies."
